MTU and DIMO geared to transform Marine and General Engineering Sectors in Sri Lanka and Maldives

DIMO–MTU Technical Forum 2025 was organized recently to educate its clientele in Marine and General Engineering sectors on these latest cutting-edge solutions while bringing together a distinguished audience of industry leaders, key customers including senior officials from public sector institutions including the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Railways, Sri Lanka Army, Air Force, and Police. MTU principals Ms. Gan Yien Yien, Director – Parts & Logistics (Asia) MTU, and Mr. Gopal Nadaraj, Senior Executive – Service Sales (Asia) MTU, attended the event alongside the DIMO leadership team.

Customers were educated on latest cutting-edge solutions like MTU Go!, a digital platform offering real-time fleet management, and Performance-Based Extended Maintenance Routines, which optimize service intervals using real-time data.

Mr. Chathura Gunasekara, General Manager – Marine & General Engineering at DIMO, explained, “MTU Go! allows customers to integrate all their MTU engines and systems into a centralized digital platform using IoT connectivity. It provides full access to engine diagnostics, performance metrics, service schedules, and alerts via mobile devices—enabling proactive, data-driven decision-making and greater control on the go.”

He further educated customers on the Performance-Based Extended Maintenance Routines, noting that they extend service intervals based on actual engine usage and performance trends. “This reduces unnecessary downtime and costs while improving reliability and maximizing engine lifecycle value,” he said, emphasizing that these innovations reflect DIMO’s customer-centric approach to engineering solutions.

DIMO and MTU plan to invest in research-based service upgrades and product development, identifying Sri Lanka and the Maldives as strategic growth markets. These investments will focus on tailoring advanced propulsion and power solutions to local requirements and developing new engine variants through collaborative R&D.
