Prime Lands Residencies PLC appoints Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge to the Board

Prime Lands Residencies PLC, Sri Lanka’s leading real estate developer, announced the appointment of Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge as an Independent, Non-Executive Director to the Board. The appointment, resolved by the Board on March 27, 2025, is effective immediately.

Prof. Amaratunge brings extensive expertise in economics, governance, and corporate strategy to Prime Lands Residencies PLC, further strengthening the company’s leadership as it continues to develop landmark projects that redefine luxury living in Sri Lanka.

A distinguished academic and administrator, Prof. Amaratunge currently serves as the Chairman & Senior Professor of Business Economics at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. His impressive career includes stints as the Chairman of the University Grants Commission and Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Prof. Amaratunge holds a BA (Hons.) in Economics from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, an MA in Economics from the University of Colombo, an MSc in Economics of Rural Development from Saga National University, and a Ph.D. from Kagoshima National University, Japan. His academic contributions are in over 75 refereed publications in local and international journals.

In recognition of his efforts in strengthening Sri Lanka-Japan relations, Prof. Amaratunge was awarded the ‘Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon’ by the Government of Japan in 2024, one of the highest honours conferred on foreign nationals by His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan.

Prof. Amaratunge’s corporate governance experience includes serving as an Independent Director on the boards of several leading companies, including both listed and non-listed entities.
