Link Natural Continues to Champion Sustainability for a Greener Sri Lanka

Link Natural Products, a subsidiary of CIC Holdings and a trusted name in ayurvedic pharmaceutical, herbal healthcare, and herbal personal care products, has always had sustainability in their hearts. Over the years, the company has continuously reaffirmed its deep commitment to the environment and to communities across the island through a multitude of sustainable initiatives. These initiatives reflect the company’s belief that true sustainability stems from the empowering of local farmers and the preservation of the invaluable knowledge of indigenous medicinal plants, passed down through generations.

Link Natural extended its reputed ‘Thuru Athi Thuru’ Harithawalokana outreach by engaging with community stakeholders through a range of initiatives carried out around World Environment Day 2025. These efforts demonstrated how the true impact of collaboration can bridge communities across the nation. As an inaugural step and in commemoration of the company’s long-standing environmental commitment, Link Natural hosted symbolic tree planting ceremonies at its Headquarters in Dompe and at its primary cultivation estate in Dambukanda on World Environment Day.

The event was attended by Mr. Ashan Ransilige, Chief Executive Officer, and Ms. Chamari Wickramathilake, Chief Operating Officer, Link Natural Products. They joined with employees in a pledge to environmental stewardship, reinforcing the company’s belief that sustainability begins from within and extends to the communities it serves.

One of the key projects under the ‘Thuru Athi Thuru’ Harithawalokana outreach was conducted in partnership with the Northern Naval Command of the Sri Lanka Navy. The initiative involved the cultivation and planting of 300 indigenous medicinal plants—including Moonamal, Karanda, Kohomba, Beli, Divul, Nasnaran, Maadam, and Nelli—within the Navy Camp premises. Each species is vital to traditional healing and represents both environmental restoration and the preservation of ancient wisdom.

Link Natural’s community-centric approach to sustainability was further brought to life on the 15th of June 2025, in the Kelani River valley. The company worked hand in hand with Dompe Divisional Secretariat’s Forest Conservation Department, the National Youth Services, and the Hada Bima Authority. Over 500 trees were planted during this initiative, including indigenous species such as Mee, Kumbuk, Moonamal, Karadara and Puwak. This initiative underscores the fact that conservation and community welfare must work in tandem. Preventing erosion and enhancing biodiversity directly support agricultural livelihoods that depend on the healthy river systems and strengthen natural habitats that sustain the country’s medicinal biodiversity.

Additionally, a Perennial Tree Planting Programme was also launched, along the roadside between Nallanthinniya and Maskeliya to enhance ecological balance and promote green landscapes. Link Natural conducted this in collaboration with the Mahaweli Authority, and the Seetha Gangula Farmers’ Association. Link Natural’s Marketing and Agriculture teams actively participated in the initiative, which saw the planting of 400 perennial plants.

Link Natural’s sustainability initiatives are a great example of how businesses can lead with purpose, rooting growth in tradition while building for the future.”

In previous years, Link Natural’s ‘Saara Osu’ Initiative has stood as a testament to how environmental responsibility and social empowerment flourish together. The Initiative was recognised with the Best Sustainability Projects Award 2024 at The Best Corporate Citizen Awards organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The initiative will have distributed Rs. 32 million among outgrower farmers by the end of 2024/25, directly improving rural livelihoods while adding strength to the country’s medicinal plant cultivation network.
