CAREER ONE (www.careerone.gov.lk) Digital Platform Awareness Programme Strengthens the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sector
A comprehensive awareness programme on the CAREER ONE digital platform (www.careerone.gov.lk) was successfully conducted for the Western Province on Wednesday, 14th January 2026, bringing together key stakeholders in Sri Lanka’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. The event was held at the ITC Ratnadipa Hotel, Colombo.
The programme was organized under the KOICA-funded TVET Career Platform Project (2023-2026), implemented by UBION, a leading Korean Edtech company that serves as the Project Management Consultant, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education of Sri Lanka, and the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC). The initiative aimed to promote digital career readiness, strengthen career guidance mechanisms, and expand the effective use of the CAREER ONE digital platform – the national career guidance platform for Sri Lanka’s TVET Sector – providing career guidance services, on-the-job training (OJT) vacancies, and job vacancies for TVET students pursuing NVQ courses.
The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dharmasri Wicramasinghe, Chairman of TVEC, followed by an address by Ms. Samanthi Senanayake, Additional Secretary (Vocational Training) of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education. She highlighted the importance of digital platforms in modernizing career guidance and improving employability outcomes for TVET students.
The presentation session commenced with Mr. Yoo In Seak, Vice President of UBION, who delivered a detailed overview on the data-driven performance review and current status analysis of the CAREER ONE platform, emphasising its role in tracking student progress and supporting evidence-based decision-making for career guidance within the TVET sector.
A key message from TVEC was delivered by Mr. Manjula Vidanapathirana, Director – TVEC, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to strengthening collaboration among training institutions through digital transformation. Further insights were shared by Ms. Kavindi Muthumali, Inspector – Career Guidance Division (NAITA), who spoke on the importance of structured and digital career guidance for future TVET students. Also, Mr. M. M. Mahzoon, Career Guidance Officer from VTA Ampara, presented best practices in using the CAREER ONE Platform for trainees and career guidance officers.
It was followed by a keynote speech and Q&A session by Mr. Lahiru Madhuranga, Director – Winwil Group of Companies, who shared valuable industry perspectives on employability and workforce readiness.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Ms. Lee Yoo Li, Country Director – KOICA Sri Lanka, who highlighted KOICA’s continued support in advancing digital innovation and sustainable skills development in Sri Lanka.
In parallel with the awareness sessions, a hands-on student sign-up and portfolio creation programme was carried out for TVET students. Participating institutions included MoE, TVEC, Vocational Training Authority (VTA), Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET), National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), University of Vocational Technology (UoVT), University Colleges, Ceylon–German Technical Training Institute (CGTTI), National Youth Services Council (NYSC), and the Lalith Athulathmudali Vocational Training Centre (LAVTC).
The program marked a significant milestone in strengthening the adoption of the CAREER ONE digital platform and reinforcing collaboration among government bodies, TVET institutions, and industry partners to support the future workforce of Sri Lanka.
